To put it lightly I dislike my hair.

If I could change one thing about me, it would be this hair of mine.

My mother and sisters all have super thick nice hair.

I think I used to, but that eating disorder of mine took about half of the hair I had,

and it has never been the same since.

I chopped it all of once.

It was necessary.

At the time I hated it, but when I look at some pictures of it short, it wasn't so bad.

I have been trying to grow it out ever since it was chopped.

So for the last. . . . 5 years I suppose.

It has grown.

But it still really bugs.

More often than not, {as of lately} this is what my hair looks like.

I throw in the braids on one side to try to liven things up a bit.
But my hair isn't pretty, and is getting on my last nerves.

I have been thinking of cutting it, but I am afraid if I did I would cry myself to sleep each night.
But then look at these girls short{er} hair.

Minus Selena's bangs, I'd feel too awkward with those, their short hair is cute.

Given I wish I had this hair, and someone to do it for me everyday too. . . .

I need to face the fact that I don't, and probably never will.

So I need some help please.

Jimmer comes to town

The Golden State Warriors were playing the Kings on Tuesday.

We had to go.

We called our cute friends the Baer's and they wanted to come with us.

Devin Baer got us some fabulous seats,

so we were up close and personal with Jimmer.

It was a close game, and even though Jimmer lost, it was lots of fun!

Also, for all you X Factor fans, when I was observing the crowd, look who I spotted.

My plan was to go find him at half time, but they took him away where the rich and the famous hang out during games.

Let's hope I have better luck when the Mavericks come to town.

It's Winter Here

This past week the weather has been fabulous!

It is 70 degrees, in January.

I am used to the 30-40 degree snowy day's in Utah this time of year, in which every year I felt

like it was the coldest winter we ever had!.

{and let me tell you, I miss nothing of those winters.}

Perfect would be a 90 degree day, but 70's, I will happily take.

On this lovely weathered weekend, we went miniature golfing.

And what to go better with this lovely weather than some

delicious homemade ice cream.

I hope you had a nice warm weekend too.

And if it wasn't warm, I still hope it was real nice.

The Kardashians

I love every the Kardashian's, Jenner's, *Odom's, Disick's.

They are beautiful, successful, funny, entertaining, and that is how they make thier millions.

Chinese Chicken Salad

While we were in Georgia, Jordan's mother made us this delicious salad.

She gave me the recipe, and voila!

What you'll need and what to do:

3 Chicken Breast sauteed with fresh ground ginger
1 head of Lettuce, chopped
3 green Onions, chopped
Celery, chopped
Peas
Other vegetables you'd love.
Wantons, fried
Rice noodles, fried

Dressing:
1/2 cup Seasame Seeds
4 Tbs Rice Vinegar
1/2 cup Oil
4 Tbs Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Accent
(Mix all together)

Mix all salad ingredients together with dressing, along with some store bought
Seasame Ginger dressing.
Top with fried wantons and noodles.

Enjoy.

I have been waiting for this new sandwich shop to open for months now.

And it finally happened!

The great thing about this place, it is right next door.

Like it is quicker for me to walk there than it is to get in the car and drive.

Jordan and I went on Friday night for dinner.

Jordan's sandwich was the best (sandwich 1), though both were tasty.

He was ever so kind to share with me.

They threw in some free muffins and cookies to try to win us back too.

Cirque Du Soleil's

Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour

came to Oakland last week.

Google treated all their employee's (and guest) to a wonderful night of this show.

After work I rushed as fast and safely as I could to Oakland.

{which wasn't to fast at all seeming what should have taken 45 minutes, took me almost 2 hours}

And I met Jordan there just in time!

I had never been to a Cirque Du Soleil show before and was very impressed.

Plus, Michael Jackson songs are the greatest!

{I am not quite sure the problem here.}

Thanks Google for a fun night,

and for getting me as close to a Michael Jackson concert as I am going to get.

Jordan and I had been wanting to see what Berkeley was all about, so we made the drive.

We went to Cal's Campus and checked things out there.

It was the first day of classes, so there were lots of people there.

I felt like I fit right in with my camera there.

Then we walked around downtown and found ourselves something to eat.

I had heard of a few neighborhoods having good food.

We went to The Gourmet Ghetto and found this little place.

Food was good, but note to self,

we probably should have gotten a burger at a place called

The Burger Meister.

I love having day's off with this husband of mine.

The Melt

I was planning on going to the grocery store for lunch, but drove past

and figured it had to be grilled cheese, so I stopped there instead.

It was a good decision to stop.

We are back home.

It's going to take some getting used to being back in California.

It was so much fun being around our family those three weeks, I surely enjoyed it!

Though it is being just us sometimes, it's a good thing we are so madly in love.

Jordan is back to work, and so am I.

I now have a full time nanny job, and will be spending every day with this cute child.

He is one sweet little boy!

I think we are going to have lots of fun together.

Atlanta Hawks

On Thursday we went to the Hawks vs Nets game in Atlanta.

Jordan's sister and husband were leaving Friday morning, so this was our last night

all together until the summer, so we needed to do something fun!

I was hoping the Hawks would win, but I was cheering for Humphries while the rest of the crowd boo-ed.

What a year - 2011

2011 was quite the year.

So many crazy and great things happened!

We lived in Provo where Jordan and I were going to school.

Jordan interned with IMG and we enjoyed the year of the Jimmer.

Jordan flew out to California and interviewed with Google, where

he was offered and accepted the job.

I began to mentally prepare to move to California.

We did lots of fun things with my family,

and got excited to add two new people to the family.

Jordan graduated from BYU, and we moved out of our second apartment.

In May Jordan and I moved to California

where we have been having all kinds of crazy fun adventures.

I turned 24, and Jordan turned 25.

We spent a week in Florida over the Summer with the Cushman's.

In August the Cooks added a new baby to the family,

Quinn Brooklyn Cook.

September Blake and Taylor got married in the Salt Lake Temple.

We won a giant check.

Google threw some very fun parties, and we decided Google

is probably the coolest place ever to work.

We took a 12 hour drive to Utah to visit my family in Utah for Thanksgiving.

Jordan's friend Dallin got married, giving us another fun trip to Utah.

Jordan and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary in December,

and had a fabulous Christmas in Georgia!

A crazy, busy year, but also one of the best.

And I have hopes 2012 may be even better.

Christmas in Atlanta {2011}

We spent this Christmas 2011 in Georgia with Jordan's family.

It has been so much fun, especially since we don't get to see Jordan's family too often.

Christmas Eve we went out to dinner, then did some fun things back at home.

Sunday morning we started our Christmas by going to church, then went home and finished the festivities there.

And might I add Santa got me just about everything on my list.

It was such a fun day, and so fun to have everyone here.

I am so grateful for such a wonderful husband.

He really is a good guy.

I have loved being out here in Georgia, and am super glad we have a week left here.

I am excited to keep the festivities going!

Google Atlanta

Thursday Jordan and I went to Atlanta to see the Google office here.

Much different than his office in Mountain View.

Google here is on one level in a building in downtown Atlanta, but still has the crazy

Google things going on there.

And delicious free food? Yep.

And while Jordan worked, I went to Atlantic Station.

It was a lovely afternoon.

(except for the rain, that was not lovely.)

His Best Friends Wedding

On December 16, 2011

Kayla and Dallin Bills were married in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Dallin and Jordan have been best friends since their freshman year in college.

They both left for two years to serve an LDS Mission in Brazil, returned to

Provo where they became roommates.

(until I came along.)

I love Dallin.

He really lucked out with Kayla.
Not only is she beautiful, but one of the nicest girls I have ever met.

I hope they move back to San Francisco soon so we can be friends!

The wedding was so great!

And I loved seeing all of Jordan's friends again.

I love every single one of those boys and their wives.

I think weddings are the greatest!
I love everything about them!

Welcome to Atlanta

We made it to Atlanta.

Our first stop. . . . .

I am so happy to be in Georgia.

I was happy to come here for Christmas, but as I was laying in bed last night I realized how much I love it.

Jordan's family is so much fun, and I love Georgia!

Sometimes I miss not having our families live close to eachother,

just because that is what I am used to having.

But I have come to realize it is quite fun having family in Atlanta.

It makes for some real fun trips.

And I have a feeling this is going to be a really fun Christmas.

Our Second Anniversary

Google sure knows how to party.

Where else to hold their Christmas Party then renting an old Navy Ship!

Oh my it was so much fun.

They had great food, delicious desserts, fun games, interesting tours of the ship, and a

1940's WW2 theme going on.

I think we ate way too much, but decided we needed to try it all, and go back for seconds
and thirds on the best things.

It's Christmas Time

I love this time of year.

Just like Thanksgiving, I love everything about Christmas.

I love the music, the traditions, having the gospel, my family, the decorations,

the gifts (giving and receiving),

and everything else relating to Christmas, I love.

Our decorations are up, gifts under the tree, Justin Bieber playing. . . . . . . . .

We are all set for Christmas around here!

In less than two weeks we will be back in Utah, then off to Georgia!

(And if all goes as I am planning, a quick trip to Florida.)

The Muppet Movie

We went and saw the Muppet Movie on Thanksgiving.

I loved it.

I thought is was cute, funny, and really quite clever!

My only regret was not getting popcorn.
I love going to movies, we seem to go to a lot around here.

This weekend I think we are going to see Arthur Christmas. . . .

I heard it was pretty good. {we'll see}

On a semi-unrelated note,

did any of you watch Fraggle Rock growing up?

Nobody I talk to seem to know what in the world I am talking about when I bring up
Fraggle Rock.

It is only the coolest show that ever existed.

Plus, the Fraggle's and Muppet's were friends, which validates their coolness.

My BFF

I got to spend all week with my best little friend Ben.

I simply adore this child.

Jordan was working the first few days we were in Utah, so I got to spend all

day long with Erin, Ben and Quinn.

We went shopping, to lunch, and ran errands.

Ben had preschool Tuesday morning, then came over after.

He said his shoe came untied, so he had to tie it himself. . .

Check this out.

I found it pretty cute personally.

Ben makes me feel very loved.

When Jordan and I got there, Ben helped us take our luggage down to our room.

He then sat on the bed and said,

"So, what should we do?"

I loved when people would walk in the room and he would tell

them to quit bugging us.

Or when I would hold Quinn and he would get a sad look and

say, "Brooke, you aren't even playing with me".

(with that said, me and Quinn don't get too much time together.)

Ben is (one of) my best friend(s).

Thanksgiving in review

Thanksgiving was just as wonderful as I hoped.

Grandma Parry is the greatest.

I am so grateful for such a wonderful family, and for the best husband out there

who drove us to Utah to spend the week with them.

As tradition goes we made our pies Wednesday at G. Parry's

with all the (girl) cousins.

Thanksgiving dinner was very tasty!

I am not sure how my grandma does it, but she pulls it off every year!

{with a little help of from rest of us, mainly the parents}

Our after dinner treats I especially love!

I think Thanksgiving is the best!

I loved spending all that time with my family.

They are the greatest out there.

I have come to the conclusion, my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.

I love absolutely everything about it.

I love the Thanksgiving traditions we have with my Grandma, that we have had

since before I can even remember.

I love the food.

As I have said, if you haven't had a Grandma Parry Thanksgiving, you haven't had

a real Thanksgiving.

This holiday is kind of a big deal in our family, and I love it.

And I love all of my family that get together.

All my family, my cousins, aunts and uncles, Grandparents, and new little children.

Family is the best, and mine in particular can't be beat.

I love Thanksgiving here.

I watch Regis and Kelly every morning.

When Jordan asks how my day went, I often tell him what I learned from Regis.

I am sad to say today was Regis Philbin's last day.

And even sadder to say I missed it!

Thank heavens for a DVR.

I hope they find someone great to replace him.

You'll be greatly missed at this house, my mornings just won't be the same.

The Best Thing I Ever Made

Have you ever watched that show?

Food Network is the best.

Turns out Guy Fieri makes a killer Cajun Chicken Alfredo.

This Chicken was so good! And the Pasta just as devine!

Try it out.

It sure was tasty!

Ingredients

Kosher salt
Boneless, skinless chicken breast (about 1 1/4 pounds)
Blackening Spice Rub, recipe follows
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons minced garlic
1/4 cup dry white wine
3 cups heavy cream
1 cup roughly chopped marinated sun dried tomatoes
1 pound fettuccine
3/4 cup grated parmesan
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over very high heat.

Dredge the chicken breasts in the Blackening Spice Rub. Place in the cast-iron skillet. Blacken both sides of the chicken, 2 to 3 minutes per side.

Transfer the chicken to a baking sheet and place in the oven until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer, about 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven and slice the chicken into strips on the bias.

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the garlic and lightly brown it, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the wine. Pour in the heavy cream, bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce is reduced by half. Add the sun-dried tomatoes and chicken slices.

Meanwhile, cook the fettuccine al dente, according to the package directions. Drain.

When the cream sauce is at the desired consistency, stir in 1/2 cup of the Parmesan, the sea salt, pepper and pasta.

To serve, toss the pasta with the cream sauce and serve on large rimmed plates. Garnish with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan.

Blackening Spice Rub:

1 tablespoon granulated garlic
1 tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
1/2 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons granulated onion
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon chili powder

Combine the garlic, black pepper, salt cumin, onion, cayenne pepper, Italian seasoning, paprika and chili powder in a small bowl. Store in an airtight container.

The Hungar Games

I will admit I haven't been a real fan of other "book" movies.

And by "book" movies, I am referring to Harry Potter and Twilight.

Maybe it's because I didn't read the books, therefore the movies weren't my thing.

But I mentioned before that Jordan and I read the Hungar Games books.

We read all three of them together, out loud.

I loved this activity together, and maybe that is why I loved the books so much.

Lots of my daily thoughts were centered around the Hungar Games.

I would find myself replaying the book over and over in my mind, and couldn't wait for Jordan to get home so we could read more chapters.

And my dreams were similar to when we were watching Prison Break, a bit crazy!

There are two people I tell Jordan I miss sense finishing their series.

Peeta (Hungar Games) and Schofield (Prison Break).

I am real excited for this movie to come out.

I think it is going to be a good one.

If anyone has any suggestions on a good book Jordan and I could read together,

I'd like some recommendations. . . . .

Caramel Popcorn

I found this recipe for some delicious looking caramel popcorn.

I decided I needed to try it.

Pretty tasty right?

There was no way Jordan and I were going to eat all of it,

and if we did, we were going to make ourselves mighty sick, so I had to come up with

someone else to give it to.

Who more perfect than my nursery class.

I made them these little guys, Happy Thanksgiving!

(On a side note, have I mentioned just how much I love my nursery class?

One little boy I wish I could bring home with me every week.)

Here is the recipe for the Popcorn:

Ingredients:

16 C popped popcorn,

(or three popped bags, incase you don't have a popper like me)

1 C brown sugar

1/4 C corn syrup

1/2 C butter

1/2 t baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

Fun sized candy bars

(I used Twix, 100 grand, and Cookies and Creme.)

1 cup white chocolate chips

1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

1 tsp. shortening

What to do:

Pop yourself 16 cups of popcorn.

Into a medium sized glass bowl, or large glass measuring cup, place the butter, brown sugar and corn syrup.

Heat it in the microwave for 1 minute, then stir the ingredients together with a wooden spoon.

Repeat this step four more times.

After the fourth time, it should be very bubbly and hot at this point,

add the baking soda and vanilla and a dash of salt.

Pour the popcorn into a large brown paper grocery sack.

Pour the caramel right into the bag on top of the popcorn.

Stir it around with a wooden spoon.

Fold the bag over and place it in the microwave, heat for 1 minute. Take the bag out of the microwave and shake it.

Pour the caramel corn out onto a large jelly roll pan, lined with parchment paper.

Chop up the candy bars and lay them out over the caramel corn.

Heat the white chocolate chips in the microwave, for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating interval. Don't let the chocolate get too hot. Add 1/2 t shortening to the melted chocolate and stir to combine.

Drizzle the white chocolate over the top of the caramel corn and candy bars.

Melt the semi sweet chocolate just like you melted the white chocolate. Drizzle it over the caramel corn.

Let the chocolate set up. Break it up into chunks and serve.

Enjoy!

I love chicken

We aren't that fancy here.

More often than not, when Jordan and I go to a restaurant, I look through the menu, then order Chicken Tenders and Fries.

If you add a salad and chips and salsa, that is my favorite meal.

The greatest Chicken and Fries I have ever, EVER had, was on our way to Georgia last summer, and we stopped at BBKings in Nashville.

I want to drive to Georgia again just for that reason.

I don't believe people who claim to love sushi.

I think they are just trying to impress their friends to be honest.

If you are wanting to spend that much on food, get real and order a steak.

I like pizza and pasta, have recently become fond of steak, I think Chinese is just ok, and I love Mexican food, but think it is safe to say

Chicken Tenders and French Fries are probably my favorite.

This last weekend Jordan and I made our way to Cheesecake Factory.

They are in the running for some of the greatest Chicken Tenders and Fries

(and also make quite the killer side salad might I add. . . . )

Good Food

I have been nanny-ing for this family a couple days a week.

And they are the sweetest!

But this post is about the cooking skills of their mother.

I have been able to eat dinner with them just about every time I have gone,

and it has all been so good!

This last time I ate there she made this Lemon Chicken Piccata with Capers.

It was just as good as the name sounds!

I am just getting to know them, so I didn't want to whip out my

camera and start taking pictures of their food quite yet,

but once I get up the courage, I will so you can see this deliciousness I am

talking about.

I will have to get the chicken recipe and share it with you.

But for now, I will share the most tasty salad we had to go with it!

I loved it so much I went to the store in the morning

to get the ingredients so I could have it for lunch.

Here is all it had.

Mix those all together, an you have a salad!

The dressing is so good! And the real kicker were these. . . .

I also added some fresh mozzarella.

The mozzarella was on "quick sale" at the store, and I am trying to be sure to get my calcium in these days.

(I worry I am going to get osteoporosis, or a hunched back, and I don't want to)

Plus, I think fresh mozzarella is pretty darn good.

Next time I am going to add some bacon.

I think that would make it even tastier!

We have some busy months ahead of us.

With Jordan's family is in Georgia, mine in Utah, and us in California,

things are about to get a bit crazy around here.

I have had many people tell me that any vacation we take, or extra money

we make will now be spent in traveling to see our family.

I now see this to be true.

(and on a side note, it is about time someone comes and visits us.)

Due to a very special wedding this December, we will be going to both Utah, and

Georgia this Christmas {time-ish}.

While I am very, very excited, not only for the wedding,

but that I get another excuse for a trip to Utah, I am trying not to lose my mind

in trying to figure out how we are going to work this all out. . . .

So if any of you have any suggestions in finding cheaper flights these days,

have at it, I am all ears!

(I am all ears? Kinda a lame saying, I wrote it, deleted it, then wrote it again. . . .

Couldn't think of another way to put it, so excuse the lame-ness please)

But with that said, I love these holiday's we have ahead!
If you are wanting to turn on your Christmas music, I am all for that!
We have already broke out the Christmas movies in this house. . .
. . . and I think we can do that and not forget about Thanksgiving.
Because I know nobody wants to forget that holiday!

boy do you miss out!
Though I am sure you feel your Thanksgivings are just as great,
I think mine is the best.

My Week

I have spent the last week with this cute child.

A girl from church got me in contact with a sweet young mother who was looking for some

extra help, and needing nanny for the week.

I give this mom a lot of credit.
She goes to Stanford, is an "army wife", as well as a mom of a 3 month old.
Very impressive if you ask me!
I was so happy to help her, and this baby could not have been sweeter.

I was also able to walk around Stanford Campus and give myself a tour.
I had heard how pretty the campus was, so it was fun to finally get to
walk around and see it all.
Luckily this baby loves the stroller and was perfect company for me!

If you haven't seen this campus, I'd recommend taking a walk
yourself if you ever are in my town.
Jordan has been wanting to see it too, so I am sure I will be back.

Too bad I didn't enjoy school more,
some people seem to have a really great time there.

I wouldn't expect anything less from Google than the Halloween Party they pulled.

Some even got to work from home for "Google-ween".

Thursday afternoon they had a party for all the kids.

Which I of coarse attended.

Witches, Pirates, Pumpkin heads, and creepy things.

And let's not to forget the treats!

Cookies, fresh popped Kettle Corn, Pretzels, and Funnel Cake!

And look at these creepy guys they brought in.

Friday was the adult party, which was a lot the same, just add some alcohol.

{The kid party was a bit more my speed.}

Thursday, Jordan's manager told them they had to dress up on Friday, and they'd be meeting that morning for breakfast together. . . . .

So Thursday night we were scrounging for an idea, and here's what we came up with.

He was a "Security Check".

Next year we will be a bit more prepared for this event.

Halloween here is a big deal.

Does anyone else watch the X Factor?

I love it.

I was curious to how it'd be.

I love Simon, every other talent show wants to be him.

I love Paula, she is all the entertainment I need.

Nicole is beautiful, lets face it, we'd all kill to look like that.

And as for LA Reid, anyone who has Justin Bieber signed to his label

is pretty cool in my book!

Oh, and lets not forget the host. - So funny.

He is a little serious and get to the point at times, but I find myself cracking up

at him every week.

We didn't start watching till a few weeks in, meaning we missed all the non sense episodes.

Thank heavens.

Those are my worst episodes, the auditions.

I feel the same about American Idols auditions, pure torture to watch.

Last night was a 2 1/2 hour episode, and first live show.

Well worth my time.

And this girl, Drew, is pretty dang good.

There are only a few people I could do without on the show.

The rest of them I hope win.

{though I realize that is not possible}

You should start watching it.

Ok, so maybe I don't heart Cal Football.

But they played them Utes this weekend, and I surly don't love them.

They also gave me one of the greatest nights ever!

Jordan has a friend, Jeff, who works for the sports marketing department at Cal.

Jeff was kind enough to give us tickets to the game this weekend at AT&T park.

So we put on our yellow and blue, and headed out.

(Now don't you stop reading here, it's about to get real good!)

Ok, now for the good stuff.

Jordan was "picked" to kick a 25 yard field goal at half time.

One-thousand dollars, and two tickets to another Cal Football game.

That is right,

$1000!

And you best believe that soccer player of mine made it!

Right down the middle, as if he'd been kicking footballs all his life.

Who doesn't dream of winning one of those?

You'd have thought he'd won the lottery I was so excited!

I don't think I've ever screamed so loud!

Even the coaches on the side were rooting him on!

It was the greatest day ever!

I told Jeff he just made my life by choosing Jordan to kick that field goal,

and that it was the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

Free game, $1000 dollars, Utes lost, and the Cougars won.

Not much can beat that.

So to celebrate our lovely evening, we went to dinner.

I went to meet Jordan for dinner at Google the other night.

He informed me he wasn't too hungary.

Why?

Because he had been learning to make Spanish food from one of the Chef's at Google

for the past 4 hours.

A four-coarse meal to be exact.

I'm never surprised what goes on there these days. . . .

Baked Potato Soup

This is the greatest soup you will ever make.
Try it out and see, you'll love it!

What you'll need, and what to do:

1/2 cube butter

2 teaspoons minced garlic (or 2 cloves)
1/2 c. flour
4 1/2 c. milk (I used 2%, but any kind will do)
1 (14 oz) can chicken broth
6 medium baking potatoes, baked
2 c. grated cheddar (or sharp cheddar) cheese, divided
(though I am pretty sure I used more than that)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 1/2 c. sour cream
1 bunch chopped green onion
1 package of bacon

Bake potatoes in oven on 300 for about 3 hours.

Melt butter in a stock pot over medium heat.
Add garlic and saute for 30-60 seconds until fragrant. Add flour to pan.
Slowly add milk a little at a time while whisking constantly to eliminate lumps.
Whisk until smooth and then add chicken broth.
Bring soup just to a simmer and heat until thickened, stirring often, about 5 minutes.
Once soup is thickened, turn heat down to medium-low.
Cut potatoes in half length-wise and use a spoon to scoop out potato flesh into the pot.
Use a spoon or whisk to smash potatoes, breaking up large clumps.
Add grated cheese and salt and pepper and stir until cheese is melted.
Remove pan from heat and stir in sour cream, green onions,
and crumbled bacon (do reserve some bacon, cheese, and onions to garnish).
Add additional salt and pepper to taste.
Ladle into bowls and top with each serving with the remaining
sour cream, onions, cheese, and bacon.

Half Moon Bay

When we first moved here, a girl from our ward at church was telling me

some fun things to do around here.

She mentioned during October in Half Moon Bay there is a fun pumpkin festival.

I have been waiting to go ever since.

It was this weekend, so we drove up to Half Moon Bay for the

Pumpkin and Arts Festival.

I did some reading on it, and everyone said it was great, their only complaint was the traffic.

What should have taken us 30 minutes to get there,

took us two and a half hours.

Yikes.

But we did make it, 2 hours before it ended.

It was fun.

Very VERY crowded.

You actually could barely move!

Looks like all the Bay area was in attendance on Saturday.

There were booths lining the streets, Radio Disney singing contest, pumpkin carving,

live bands, magicians, and jugglers.

We made our way to the food booths.

We got our garlic fries, my corn on the cob, a place to sit, and I was a happy girl!

We decided against stopping at a pumpkin patch on the way home

in order to make it to "Footloose".

Pumpkin Festival, Footloose, Chipotle . . . .

It was a weekend of my choice.

As a side note, I also saw

Dolphin Tale this week.

I enjoyed Footloose and Dolphin Tale

for those wondering.

Both receive a +1 from me.

Why are people so fast to turn their back on Summer?

While fall leaves are pretty, there isn't a leaf out there that beats a hot summer day!

As soon as fall starts to arrive,

everyone starts saying how much they love and have missed it.

How much they love the crisp fall air, fall clothing, hot chocolate, etc.

If it were my choice, it would be 85 degrees all year long.

Forget fall leaves, forget winter snow,

and I would sit by a pool every day of the year if I could.

Here in California it has been rainy the last week, and a bit cold if you ask me.

I haven't known what to do with myself to be honest,

it seemed as if my days at the pool were over.

Well, I have been doing my research, and here is what I found for Sunnyvale weather.

I am shooting for record temperatures around here.

Yesterday was in the 80's, and today is supposed to be near 90.

So all you fall lovers enjoy your sweaters and leaves,

I am enjoying my day at the pool.

Bobby Flay

So I am still a "house wife" here in California.

(in other words, jobless)

Mornings around here sometimes go something like this.

Jordan leaves around 730 {ish} while I continue to sleep.

At 9 I make my way into the living room, and watch Regis and Kelly,

at 10 is the View, at 11 I get ready,

and then my day goes on from there.

(ok, I confess, I also now have been watching The Chew at 12, too.

That just sounded way too lazy and pathetic to add)

Well, Bobby Flay was on the View the other day,

and made a chicken dish I wanted to try.

So I did.

Here is the Bobby Flay's clip.

And below is my recipe and directions.

Chicken Breast (how ever many you want to make)

Bread Crumbs mixed w/crushed corn flakes

Egg, beaten

Cheese (of choice)

Ham, thin sliced

Salt & Pepper

Cooking Oil

Flatten out chicken breast with a mallot.

Salt and pepper chicken. Then coat chicken with flour, drench in egg,

and coat with bread crumb/corn flake mixture.

Heat on stove oil, covering bottom of skillet,

and cook chicken, cooking 3 minutes on each side.

When chicken is done, add sliced cheese, then top with ham.

(keep on stove allowing cheese to melt.)

Bobby said to use a cream cheese, which I did, but I think next time I will

use a "regular" cheese {mozzarella, cheddar, swiss. . . .}.

Weekend Recap

Remember when we had this date @ Google?

Google dates are the best, this one even consisted of a 20 minute

massage in a massage chair while Jordan played arcade games. . . . .

Saturday Jordan went with two of his friends to the Stanford football game,

while I patiently waited for him at home.

Stanford pretty much dominated from what I saw. . . . .

We then went to find a place to watch the BYU game, and found this joint called

Rookies Sports Lodge.

It was the opening game for the San Jose Sharks, and boy do these fans love the Sharks!

We were able to get them to change a corner TV to the game for us, and see a BYU win.

{We were a bit out numbered here by Shark and San Jose State fans.}

It was a good weekend, one I would like to be still going on. . . . .

I wish there were a way to make weekends come around more often.

Canning Salsa

If you are into canning, and into salsa

this recipe will make your life 10 times better!

This salsa makes Spaghetti, Chili, Enchilada's (etc) all the more tasty!

And is also my favorite thing on the planet to eat.

This year I doubled what I usually make, just to be sure I had enough to last me all year!

(And I am still concerned I didn't do enough.)

1 batch makes from 20-25 pints.

8 quarts (1/2 bushel) peeled tomatoes

3 cloves Garlic

7 large Onions

7 Green Peppers

7 large Anihiem Peppers

7 Jalapeno's

1/2 cup Vinegar

1 1/2 TBS Sugar

2 1/2 TBS Salt

2 TBS Accent

1/2 TBS Black Pepper

1 heaping cup Ultra Set

Scald and peel tomatoes.

Chop tomatoes in food processor, and place in large cooking pan on stove top.

Then chop all vegetables (as well as garlic) in food processor, and add to tomatoes.

Add all other ingredients, except for the ultra set.

Combine well, and let cook on stove top for 1+ hours.

Add ultra set, and mix well, dissolving any clumps.

Place salsa in jars.

Boil jar lids on stove for 5-10 minutes, then place on jars.

Place jars in pressure cooker, or large pot, filling with water about a 1 1/2 inches below rim of jar.

Also add about a half cup of vinegar to keep jars sterilized.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium heat, and cook for 20 minutes.

Repeat process until all jars are cooked.

Let jars cool, and be sure all have sealed.

Store, eat, and enjoy!

After a sad Saturday night football game a few weeks ago, we ate here.

So I will share a short story with you.

Once upon a time, I had an eating disorder.

This lasted all too long, and took a toll on my teeth.

{I have never talked about my eating disorder on here, but I one day will,

Just not today.

Today will be about how it affected my teeth.}

Sad story, but I will face the facts.

I am 24 years old.

I now have had 4 teeth pulled, three implants, and countless root canals.

I was talking to my dentist the other day, and apologized for never having a

"normal" dentist appointment. It was always some kind of emergency.

The week of my wedding, I woke up to swollen gums above

one of my front(ish) teeth. The tooth was dead.

My dentist, once again saving the day, was able to fix it for me.

He told me the fix was temporary, but we'd see how long it could last.

So now we flash forward to a little over a year later.

(recall the emergency here)

I was sitting in my sink, getting ready for work, and feel my front(ish) tooth

fall out of my mouth.

SERIOUSLY!

Like your worst nightmare come true!

I was in major panic, and called my dad.

(Yes, I still call my dad in state of emergency, I didn't know what else to do)

He said to drive up, and he'd call my dentist.

I woke up Jordan, and explained to him my tradgedy, then called my work,

and drove up to my parents.

My loving dentist got me in, put me back together, and we

talked about my options.

Short time after, I was back to the oral surgeon.

(Who might I add is also one of my favorite people ever!

Lets just say when you have had 4 teeth pulled,

your doctors make it pretty high on your list of favorites.)

I now was given a temporary front tooth.

Finally, what seemed to be a long 6 months later, while I was in Utah this

last month, my dentist finished the job.

I didn't take a real before and after picture, which in some ways I wish I did,

and in other ways, I never want to see a toothless me again,

here is what I could come up with.

The Forgotten Carols

One of my favorite family traditions is going to The Forgotten Carols.

I love it.

It is actually a bit of a controversial tradition in our family,

but in my opinion, one of the greatest.

Jordan had his first experience with The Forgotten Carols last year

First of many might I add.

I don't ask him what he thought with this tradition, because with this,

his opinion doesn't really matter.

(and that is not being rude.)

Well, I had looked up last years tour and noticed that it played in Sacramento.

I was thrilled!

I have missed The Forgotten Carols once while I was in the hospital,

and never ever wanted to miss again.

Tickets go on sale the first day of General Conference.

So Saturday I logged on to check the tour dates, and this is what I see. . . . . . . .

Very disappointed.

Pumpkin Roll

In the spirit of bringing in the Fall Season, here is a delicious

recipe for Pumpkin Roll.

I need to give credit to my dear father for making this one.

He is quite the chef.

Pumpkin Mixture: Filling:

3 eggs - beaten well 8 oz. Cream Cheese

1 cup sugar 1 cup Powder Sugar

2/3 cup Pumpkin (canned) 1/4 cup Butter

1 TBS lemon juice 1 tsp. Vanilla

3/4 cup flour

1 tsp. Baking Powder

1/4 tsp. Salt

2 tsp. Cinnamon

1 tsp. Ginger

1/4 tsp. Nutmeg

Mix all ingredients (under pumpkin mixture) together.

Grease cookie sheet.

Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper, and grease waxed paper.

Pour pumpkin mixture on wax paper.

Bake @ 375 for 15 minutes.

Remove immediately after baking.

Lay flat a dishtowl, and sprinkle it with powder sugar. (be generous)

Flip pumpkin mixture out on the powder sugar covered towl.

Roll towl and pumpkin mixture and place in refridgerator.

Let cool completely.

Mix together filling, and when Pumpkin Roll is completely cooled,

unroll, and frost with filling.

Re-roll (this time without the towl).

Eat and enjoy.

Salsa

My Grandma Parry is the sweetest.

While I was in Utah, I was so excited to do my salsa.

I mentioned I was going to make it, and my sweet grandmother

said I should just go to her house to do it, and she would help me.

What did I tell you, she's the best.

We were also lucky enough to have the company of the Ryan, and the Cooks.

Benny was our "happy helper" for the day.

Thank you Grandma P.

Your help was much needed and much appreciated.

I then decided to make two more batches on my own the following day.

I now am well supplied with salsa for the year. . . .

Now my next manner of business, work on getting the salsa to California.

Home is where the heart is.

While at the airport I was talking with the security man.

He asked me if I was headed "home" or if Utah was my home. . . .

Confusing question I must say.

While I think Utah will always be where I call home, I told him,

I now live in California, so, I guess both are home.

I got to play with Benjamin and Quinn Cook for two weeks straight.

Just about every day, and I loved every single second of it!

On our way to the airport, Benny Cook looked at me and said,

"Brooke, you are my best friend".

Maybe he says that to everyone, but it sure melted my heart.

I was a little sad to leave my Utah home, but I really couldn't wait to have a husband again.

Whether we are in West Point, Georgia, Provo, California, or wherever else we may be,

my favorite place to be is with Jordan.

I can't wait for this upcoming General Conference weekend, where we can spend all weekend long at home together, listening to those great messages.

It is just the kind of weekend we need.

{And family, thanks for a fun two weeks!

While we were out here, we got to go to a BYU game.

Last year Jordan interned with IMG who does the marketing for BYU sports.

We were up in one of the suites for every game,

(which I loved).

But there is something different about being in the stands.

We had a lot of fun, and lucky for us they also won!

It was a great game!

We saw some friends that we miss seeing living in California, and,

we got to sit by Colton and his friend Mike, which time with Colton is always a special treat.

We will always cheer for BYU.

Blake and Taylor's Wedding

It was such a fun day!

We are all so happy for Blake to have finally got married!

I love seeing how happy Taylor makes him, they are perfect for each other.

The two of them are so adorable,
and I am so glad we got to share such a fun day with them.

Their luncheon was held at the Lion House and was wonderful as well.

They had their reception at Taylor's aunts beautiful home.

It turned out so great! Every detail was perfect.

(I need one of him too, he is the cutest thing that ever existed)

Now the two are off on their honeymoon,

and I am sure they are having the greatest time ever!

Being married is the best thing, and nothing compares to being married in the temple, and

knowing you can spend eternity with one another.

It has been so much fun spending the last week with my family,

and getting ready for this fun day!

I love that you now have each other!

Not a fan of this.

While I can't complain too much because I have got to spend a week with

I remember watching The Next Food Network Star,

and one of the contestants made sloppy joes and fed them to Martha Stewart.

Martha was appalled that someone would actually

feed her sloppy joes.

I guess she is too sophisticated for such a food.

. . . . .Obviously I am no Martha Stewart, because I think they are delicious!

Here is my dear mother's recipe.

Brown Hamburger and onion.

Then add:

1/2 TBS dry mustard

1/3 Cup Brown Sugar

1 TBS Vinegar

1 can Chicken Gumbo Soup (Campbells)

1 Small can Tomato Sauce

Ketchup

Salt and Pepper to taste.

Taste it, and add more ketchup, or brown sugar to your own liking.

Spinach Salad

Remember the barbeque we had?

I was in charge of making a salad, and I made this Spinach Salad.

I think it is safe to say this is my favorite salad!

It is delicious!

Go ahead, make it, and see for yourself!

For the Salad:

1lb bag spinach

Large Romaine Lettuce

1/2 sliced red onion

1/2 lb sliced fresh Mushrooms

1 package bacon, cooked and crumbled

1 Tbs. cottage cheese

Shredded Swiss Cheese

Craisens, or you can use strawberries like I did.

Dressing:

2 cups Oil

2/3 cup Red Wine Vinegar

3/4 cup Sugar

2 tsp. Dry Mustard

2 Tbs. Poppy Seeds

2 tsp. Salt

Enjoy. :)

Family Night

Dinner, movie, and all the treats you could want.

Thanks once again Google for another fun event,

Our weekend away

We had such a fun weekend.

We spent Saturday watching the BYU game

(which was a nerve wracking win)

and then went out to Palo Alto and ate here again, at the SliderBar Cafe.

Then we spent the rest of our weekend in Carmel.
It was so much fun! I love trips with just Jordan and me.

We stayed at this fancy shack in Monterey. . . .

. . .spent the day at the beach, and had a lovely night in downtown Carmel.

This really is the cutest little town.
We walked through some shops, drank some apple cider, cultured ourselves with an
art gallery, and had a delicious dinner.

It was a nice get away for the two of us, and
I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend as much as we did.
